Shouldn't your company be benefiting from one of the biggest (literally) advertising opportunities available? Contact us to find out how.
How long are the files available for download?
The files you upload are stored on our servers for a period of 2 weeks. After that the files will be permanently deleted to make room for new transfers.
We are the ones tired of trying to send big files through email, only for it to bounce back unsent. We are tired of file transfer solutions which only allow us to send 100mb or 300mb files for free, and then suddenly force us to register, or worse, asking for payment. We don't believe in that.
WeTransfer is the newest free platform of emailing big files up to 2 gigabytes to friends, family, colleagues or business partners. WeTransfer sends large data files from A to B. These can be all kinds of files, like presentations, photos, videos, music, documents and more. Any filetype is possible.
It's simple, no rocket science. You go to www.wetransfer.com and select the file (or files) you want to send. You fill in the receiver's email addresses (up to 20) and your own email address. If you want you can write a message, but if not, no problem. Then you hit the 'Transfer' button, and the files are uploaded to the WeTransfer servers.
You get an email message that confirms that we have received the file(s). In that email you also find a link to our wetransfer.info website, terms, privacy statement, etc.
When the file is downloaded, you, the sender, get an email that notifies you that the recipient has received your files successfully.
It doesn't get any easier than with WeTransfer.
Do the files stay on my hard disk?
Yes. The WeTransfer system simply copies the file onto our servers.
Do you check the files that are sent?
No. WeTransfer is about trust. We trust you and you can trust us. We don't care what you send as long as it does not conflict with our Terms. If you use our service, you automatically agree with our conditions which you can find in the Terms and Privacy Statement.
Our first and most important responsibility is to get your files from A to B, to run a smooth service. Beside that we feel responsible for your good feeling when you use us. That's why we put a lot of effort in design, usability, navigation and transparency of what we're up to. Any feedback, comments or criticism on how we can improve things is very much appreciated.
No. Enjoy the smooth and easy navigation as often as you need us
No. Only companies who want to use WeTransfer as their preferred file transfer service with their own permanent background pay for it. For you it's free and it will always be free.
Do you see those beautiful backgrounds on the WeTransfer.com website? They are a kind of advertisement, a brand incentive for companies. This pays for the costs of providing the service. If you are interested in having your corporate background there as well, please contact us at advertising@wetransfer.com
The transfer speed is so slow :( How come?
With our awesome servers and connection, we've done all we can for optimal speed on our side of the line. If you're experiencing a slow upload, it is likely to be an issue with your internet service provider or home network.
No. Each email is sent separately, so they won't see any recipient's email addresses except their own.
My keynote file won't upload, why?
In older versions of keynote, the keynote file is actually a folder with multiple files in it. Zipping it should solve the problem.
My friend didn't receive a download link, why?
Two words: Spam Filter. The email probably was mistaken for spam and got caught in either their junk mail folder on arrival or it was already stopped by the email servers' spam filter.
Occasionally, things might go wrong while sending files. There's several reasons for this, but the most common problems we faced are:
1. An aggressive firewall (usually in a company environment)
2. A typo in the receivers email address
3. The computer 'going to sleep' mid-transfer
4. The internet connection fails
In addition, there are problems with Adobe Flash Player on the Mac. While most of the time it works fine, you may find that when sending large files there can be a delay before it starts sending, and very occasionally it refuses to send at all. These are issues that we have brought up with Adobe, and hopefully will be fixed soon. In the meantime, we are almost done with the HTML version of WeTransfer, where this won't be a problem.
If you are facing any problems that you can't solve, we would appreciate it if you could contact us at info@wetransfer.com
Use a query string in the address bar to create a filled in WeTransfer form! This can be useful if you have a website and you want your visitors to be able to send you big files without having to fill in a 'to' and 'message' field.
By using the 'to' and 'msg' keywords you can specify the content for the 'to' and 'message' form fields when the page loads. This is an example where we set the 'to' field to allyourbase@belongto.us:
https://www.wetransfer.com/?to=allyourbase@belongto.us
In the next example we set the 'message' field content:
https://www.wetransfer.com/?msg=that big file we need now!
If you want to set both, just place the & in between like this:
https://www.wetransfer.com/?to=allyourbase@belongto.us&msg=that big file we need now!
That's it! We deliberately haven't made it possible to specify a 'from' field because the uploader still needs to get the confirmation emails on his or her own email address.
Why does my upload get stuck at 100%?
If you're using ESET Smart Security you might encounter this problem. Here's the solution:
1. Go to the Start Menu / All Programs / ESET / ESET Smart Security, and click on the ESET Smart Security icon (with the light blue icon).
2. Click on Setup down the side, and then on the left click on Enter entire advanced setup tree.
3. On the left of the window that appears, navigate down to Antivirus and antispyware / Web access protection / HTTP, HTTPS. On the right side, switch off the Enable HTTP checking checkbox.
4. Click on OK and exit the Smart Security window.
5. Send your files. Once it has gone, you can switch the checkbox back on.
