Take a few minutes to read the following text and you will know everything what you need to know about WeTransfer Channels. Most people like our service and our beautiful wallpapers, but sometimes people or companies would like things to have a more personal touch. Companies want to show more of their brand, photographers or designers their latest work or people might just want to show great picture taken during the last vacation. That is why we introduced the 'Channels' next to our regular WeTransfer service.

What exactly is a Channel?

A Channel is basically your own WeTransfer site with the following features:

  • You have your own URL (yourname.wetransfer.com)
  • You can upload 3 wallpapers and you won’t see any advertisements. Change them as many times as you like.
  • The wallpapers link to any website you like
  • Personalised Email (your wallpaper in the background of all emails)
  • 9 possible positions for our WeTransfer app (the white upload box)
  • The WeTransfer logo on the app
  • Files are stored for 4 weeks instead of 2
  • 1 year. We will inform you one month in advance before your Channel will expire.

Own URL, own log-in?

Even if you have your own URL, a Channel is NOT a password protected environment. Everyone who knows the URL can use the site to send files while enjoying your wallpapers. The number of users is unlimited. As there might be other people who want to have the same URL as you, you should hurry up registering for a Channel.

What does a Channel cost?

$120 per year (excl. VAT) – that's only $10 per month. We think it's a bargain if you consider that we store files for up to 4 weeks, show your own wallpapers and no advertisements. European purchases will have 19% tax added - we leave refunding of the VAT to companies accounts departments.

How do I pay?

We offer various payment methods so that nearly everyone can choose his favourite. You can select between credit card, local online banking payments (iDeal, Carte Bleue, Giropay, etc.) and PayPal. You will get an invoice for administration purposes.

Will WeTransfer refund the VAT?

As not only businesses buy our Channels, we make use of the opportunity to leave the refunding of the VAT to the companies.

How long is my Channel valid?

Your Channel is valid for 1 year. We will inform you one month in advance before your Channel will expire.

Where can I get my own Channel?

Use a query string in the address bar to create a filled in WeTransfer form. This can be useful if you have a website and you want your visitors to be able to send you large files without having to fill in a 'to' and 'message' field.

By using the 'to' and 'msg' keywords you can specify the content for the 'to' and 'message' form fields when the page loads. If all of this is confusing to you, take a look at the example to the right and see if it becomes clearer.

General Questions

How does it work?

It's simple!

  • Go to www.wetransfer.com
  • Select the file(s) you want to send by clicking on the "+"
  • Fill in the receiver's email addresses
    (up to 20) and your own email address
  • Write a message to your recipients (optional)
  • Hit the 'Transfer' button, and the files are uploaded to the WeTransfer servers

Once the file(s) have reached your intended recipients, you receive an email that confirms that we have received the file(s). In that email you will also find a link to our wetransfer.info website where you can find anything you want to know about WeTransfer. When the file(s) is downloaded, you get an email that notifies you that the recipient has received your files successfully.

Do I need to register?

No. WeTransfer is and will always be registration free.

Do I have to pay?

No. We are completely free.

How much GB can I upload?

You can upload 2GB per transfer. It doesn’t matter whether it is one file or 100. 

How often can I upload?

As often as you want!

To how many people can I send files?

You can send your files to up to 20 people. Just separate the email addresses with a “,” or a space.

When sending a file to several people, will the recipients see the other email addresses I’ve sent it too? (like a CC in an email)

No. Each email is sent separately, so they will all think they’re special.

How long are my files available to download?

2 weeks. After that, the files will be permanently deleted to make room for new transfers.

Can I delete files on my own?

No, but they will be automatically deleted after 2 weeks.

Do you save the files?

No, we are not saving your files. We are just helping you to send them from A to B. So you still need to file them.

Do the files stay on my Hard disk?

Yes. The WeTransfer system simply copies the file onto our servers.

Do you check the files that are sent?

No. WeTransfer is all about trust. We trust you and you can trust us. We don't care what you send as long as it does not conflict with our terms. If you use our service, you automatically agree with our conditions, which you can find in the Terms and Privacy Statement.

Can I download the wallpapers?

Yes. You can find them on our Facebook page. Just go to www.facebook.com/WeTransfer and become a friend!

How secure is your service?

Very secure! We use a special encryption technology when files are transferred. Once the files are stored with us, they can only be accessed using links that are send to the sender and receiver. These links are basically impossible to guess.

What happens with all these email addresses of people sending and receiving files via WeTransfer?

Nothing. They will never be shared with third parties or used for any other purpose then the file transfer.

Problems Uploading

When I try to upload a file, a white page with an exclamation mark (!) comes up. What does that mean?

The grey exclamation mark (!) basically means that your flash has crashed. You need the latest flash version on your computer (10.2). You can download it here the latest update. You can find it here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

My Keynote file won’t upload, why?

In older versions of keynote, the keynote file is actually a folder with multiple files in it. Zipping it should solve the problem.

The transfer speed is sooo slow :( What is the problem?

With our awesome servers and connection, we've done all we can for optimal speed on our side of the line. If you're experiencing a slow upload, it is likely to be an issue with your Internet service provider or home network. Sorry!

The transfer gets stuck. What can be the reason?

That is either a connection problem or a problem with your anti-virus system. We heard about problems with the anti-virus system ESET Smart Security, so if you are using that, switch off "Enable HTTP checking" by following these instructions:

I haven’t received a confirmation email that the files where successfully sent. Did the transfer work?

If you don’t receive it immediately, please check your spam folder - sometimes the confirmation email ends up there. If it's not, double check that the email address you typed into WeTransfer is correct. If you don’t receive an email at all, the transfer wasn’t successful.  

Problems Downloading

My friend didn’t receive my download link. Where is it?

Two words: spam filter. The email probably was mistaken for spam and got caught in either their junk mail folder on arrival or it was already stopped by the email servers' spam filter.

The download doesn’t start when clicking on the button. How do I get the file now?

Sometimes browser settings block the easy download function.
Try to use another browser. You can also use the alternative download method “Download through your browser” which you can find under the download button.

The download speed is soooo low….what can I do about it?

There is not much you can do about it. That is most probably due to your internet connection. There are these typical “busy times” where just everything is slow on the internet because too many people are active. Still, check your internet connection and make sure nothing is wrong with it. And then wait a bit and try it later again. 

I have downloaded the files but can’t find them. Where do they hide?

Downloads are usually saved in your download folder or on your desktop. If you still can’t find them, just use the search function on your computer. Normally you can choose where you want to save it.

I downloaded the files but can't open them :( What can I do?

If you're not sure about the file format, please ask the sender first. If the file is a zip file, and you can't open it on your computer, then try downloading Stuffit for the Mac (http://stuffit.com/downloads/index.html) or WinRAR for PC http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

Other Problems

I sent a wrong file. Can I delete it on my own?

No, but the files will be automatically deleted after 2 weeks.

Who can I contact if someone has used my email address for a transfer without asking me?

Please send an email to support@wetransfer.com and we will take care of it.
